DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Decatur Police Department is investigating after an 18-year-old was shot Sunday morning.

The shooting happened near the intersection of East Lawrence and South 17th Streets around 6:40 a.m. Officers responded to the area after receiving "multiple" reports that shots had been fired in the area.

When police arrived on scene, they found bullet fragments, and one house with gunfire damage. Police said the house that was hit was not targeted.

Later, the police department learned that an 18-year-old male had driven himself to Decatur Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower back. Police added that his car was also damaged by gunfire.
