AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -- Dozens of families received boxes of food on Saturday as local organizations worked to make sure families don't go hungry during the government shutdown.
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits were paused on November 1, leaving over without access to the benefits that help put food on their tables.
In response, Airway Heights Baptist Church Food Bank organized a food drive for members of the community.
154 families lined up in the parking lot to receive food boxes.
Volunteers, including members of the Airway Heights Police Department, helped facilitate the drive.
