NAUGATUCK, Conn — Seven people were hospitalized after the Naugatuck Fire Department found a high level of carbon monoxide (CO) inside of a home Saturday night.

Naugatuck firefighters responded to suspected CO exposure on Allerton Road at 11:30 p.m. Saturday after EMS received a call about a five-year-old having trouble breathing.

Local police assisted with evacuating people from the building, according to the fire department. Naugatuck EMS called for more resources due to the number of people in need of medical attention.

The Naugatuck Fire Department detected CO levels of over 500 parts per million (ppm) inside the home. They said anything over 8 ppm is considered unsafe in a living area.
