The University of Arizona in Tucson is mourning the loss of three students who died after a hit-and-run near campus that police say involved a suspected underage, impaired driver on Oct. 30.
The University confirmed in a statement on Nov. 2 that the three victims, Katya Rosaura Castillo Mendoza, 21, Sophia Akimi Troetel, 21, and Josiah Patrick Santos, 22, were all UA students.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, loved ones, and all who are grieving these young lives cut tragically short," the statement read.
The victims were walking in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by an individual driving a Porsche Boxster near Euclid Avenue and Second Street, about two blocks from the UA campus, according to the Tucson Police Department.
