LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Hundreds of Las Vegas student athletes are getting their hearts checked this weekend, and it is for free.

At just 4 years old, Olivia Sosa had her first open-heart surgery. Now 12, she’s a black belt in karate and determined to help others take care of their hearts, too.

“I like to support and help the community. This is especially important to me because I have a heart defect myself,” Sosa said.

Olivia and her family know the importance of early detection. She gets her heart checked every few months – something this weekend’s event is making possible for hundreds of other kids.
