CLOUTIERVILLE, La. – After more than six years of detours and delays, progress is in the works for the long-awaited reconstruction of state Highway 495 in Cloutierville.
The road has been closed since 2019 after a major slide near the Cane River washed out a section of pavement. Residents say traveling is difficult because of the detour they have to make around the barricades.
“The closure of the road happened when a storm came through and the embankment caved, which took part of the roadway. DOTD came in and closed the road. They put up barricades, and we thought they would get the road fixed soon. Seven years later here we are in the same predicament, the road is still closed,” said resident Elizabeth Metoyer.
DOTD spokeswoman Erin Buchanan says the project has taken years because fix
