BARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) - Barren Ridge Girl Scout Camp, which has served generations of scouts for decades, faces potential closure due to ongoing financial challenges and budget concerns.
The camp is the most primitive facility in the Girl Scouts Kentuckiana region. Leaders and scouts say features like no air conditioning add to the charm and help teach valuable skills.
“They learn all kind of life skills. They get to go out in nature. They get to camp out, said Troop Leader Shirley Grise. ”They get to go swimming and boating. They learn archery skills. They gain a lot of lifetime friends. So, they learn how to socialize. It’s a really educational program."
