MISSOURI CITY
In a result that had ripple effects in the District 9-5A-II football playoff picture, the Fort Bend Marshall Buffaloes pulled away late for a 38-17 win over the Texas City Stings in a Saturday day game at Kenneth Hall Stadium.
Barring any major upsets on next week’s schedule, Marshall, Texas City and Santa Fe are likely headed for a three-way tie for third place in the 9-5A-II standings, and based on the district’s tiebreaker protocols, Marshall would get the No. 3 playoff seed, Texas City No. 4 and Santa Fe would fall short of reaching the postseason.
While the Stings’ playoff future appears secure, time is short for the team to be adequately ready to compete with the state’s top teams, head football coach Shone Evans said.
