For the ninth year, The Detroit News' annual Holiday Cheer for Charity returns, with a grand prize of $20,000 for the nonprofit that earns the most.

This year, there are 10 nonprofits that readers cast their votes for during the first round of the competition, starting at noon, Monday.

The nonprofits are:

∎ 42 Strong - The Tate Myre Foundation : Inspired by the killing of Oxford High School student Tate Myre and three other Oxford students by another student who lacked a mentor, the foundation was formed to provide peer-to-peer mentoring for youth.

∎ Seedlings Braille Books for Children : This nonprofit aims to increase literacy and education for visually impaired children by providing high-quality braille books for free or at a low cost.

∎ The Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundatio
