Bruno Marchand has been re-elected mayor of Quebec City under his party Québec Forte et Fière, CBC News projects. This marks his second term as mayor.

He took the stage Sunday night at the Hôtel Château Laurier, giving a thumbs up to the crowd and saying it is with great humility and hope that he welcomes these results.

“The confidence you’re bestowing unto me — it’s rare, it’s precious,” he said.

He says this outcome is the result of the work of thousands of volunteers in his campaign.

As of 1 a.m. Monday, Marchand had received nearly 50 per cent of the vote.

“It’s well over what we were expecting,” he said in an interview with CBC News Sunday.

He says the result shows residents want to move forward.
