MARCOLA, Ore. - On Sunday, countless boxes and loads of hygiene items were collected to give for free to families in need at the Marcola Roadhouse restaurant.

Event organizers Tessa Gutierrez and Chelsea Davis said that all of these donations came from the community, and it all started with a social media post.

“Our community members donated a ton, whether it was funds for us to go shopping or it was hygiene products, canned goods, meats, our community rallied together,” Gutierrez said.

According to Food for Lane County, about 75,000 people in Lane County rely on SNAP benefits. As the government shutdown continues, uncertainty with the benefits remains.
