Police in Chikwawa have arrested a man for allegedly killing a buffalo valued at K14 million inside Lengwe National Park.
Chikwawa Police spokesperson Dickson Matemba identified the suspect as Felix Kholiyo, from Namathimba Village, Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje.
Kholiyo was arrested on the night of October 30, 2025, during police patrols in the Lengwe area. Officers reportedly found him carrying a bucket full of meat, and upon questioning, he confessed that he and five accomplices had killed the buffalo. The other suspects are currently on the run.
Matemba said Kholiyo will appear in court soon once investigations are complete.
Police have since warned members of the public against entering or hunting in protected wildlife areas without proper authorization.
