CINCINNATI —
Cincinnati is set to go to the polls on Tuesday, and for the first time in 16 years, the city will have a Republican on the mayoral ballot.
During the 2009 mayoral election, Republican Brad Wenstrup faced off against incumbent Democratic Mayor Mark Mallory. Mallory ultimately emerged victorious with 54.34% of the vote to Wenstrup's 45.59%. Advertisement
It was a remarkably close margin for a city that has not had a Republican as mayor since 1971. However, despite this, the city has still routinely had Republicans in office as council members throughout the past few decades, even as Republicans have rarely constituted the majority during that time.
