A unique type of congressional district is becoming more common nationwide, with Ohio's new map serving as just the latest example.
Traditionally, U.S. congressional districts have incorporated local communities with shared political interests and socioeconomic backgrounds, with lines often resultingly falling into distinct rural, suburban and urban categories. Advertisement
Due to their large, clustered populations, most major U.S. cities have historically been able to constitute at least one or more congressional district all on their own, often without too much necessary overlap from surrounding areas.
However, Cincinnati now finds itself in a new type of district, intentionally becoming more popular throughout the country at the moment as levels of gerrymandering continue to rise:
