FAIRFIELD, Ill. (WFIE) - Leaders with Fairfield Community High School say rules were broken at the end of Saturday’s playoff football game.

The Mules were playing the Porta High School Blue Jays, from Petersburg, Illinois.

Viewers tell us there was a “fifth down” for the Blue Jays, which resulted in their win.

There is video of the game, which we have asked permission to share.

School district leaders say they feel their team “lost an opportunity to continue on their football journey due to a lack of rules applications.”

They say they contacted the IHSA and filed a formal protest.

The district shared another update showing a statement from IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson.

It acknowledges the Blue Jays were given an extra down, but says the decision of the officiant is final.
