Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) heaped praise onto President Donald Trump over the weekend while speaking at the the Republican Jewish Coalition Leadership Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, — plaudits that quickly derailed into celebrating the administration’s recent wave of state-sanctioned killings.
“I feel good about the Republican Party and where we're going as a nation,” Graham said to an energetic crowd. “We're killing all the right people and we're cutting your taxes! Trump is my favorite president. We've run out of bombs. We didn't run out of bombs in World War II!”
The Trump administration has carried out several operations abroad that have resulted in fatalities, perhaps most notably the ongoing strikes on suspected drug cartels in the Caribbean, which to date have killed at least 64 people in what critics – including a prominent Republican senator – have labeled as illegal "extrajudicial killings.”
Back in March, the Trump administration also killed at least 31 people after the president authorized large-scale strikes on Yemen to combat the Houthis, and in defense of Israel which the Houthis had launched strikes against in response to its siege on Gaza.
At the summit, Graham also heaped praise onto the Republican Jewish Coalition, a nonprofit political advocacy group and political action committee that advocates for a strong U.S.-Israel alliance, among other things.
“As a coalition of Republicans – some Baptist, some Jewish – we organize ourselves around principles that we love and we cherish; we love individual freedom, we love entrepreneurship, we love capitalism… we love Israel,” Graham said. “We love the idea of Israel, we love the struggle they’ve been involved in, we love helping them because you're helping yourself.”
A clip of the video was shared by the X account Republicans Against Trump, with a flood of shocked responses.
Graham has been among the most hawkish lawmakers in Congress, having regularly advocated for U.S. military intervention abroad. Specifically, Graham has publicly voiced support for military action against
Iran,
North Korea,
Venezuela,
Iraq,
Syria,
Libya.and
Mexico, and many on repeated occasions.
