PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A shortage in Rhode Island healthcare resources could worsen by the end of 2025 with the potential closings of Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady Fatima Hospital.
The closure of the CharterCARE properties are only pending at this time, as the a deal to sell the facilities would need to go through by December 31, 2025.
The ownership of the hospitals has been in question since 2022 when the nonprofit Centurion Foundation entered into talks to take them over.
The sale was approved by a judge in 2025 when CharterCARE’s parent company filed for bankruptcy in January.
The deal was imperiled when Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said that Centurion didn’t meet certain requirements.
