Blow to Mayo and Kerry as rising stars Kobe McDonald and Ben Murphy seal AFL moves after signing rookie contracts

Gaelic football's loss is the AFL's gain after Mayo’s exciting youngster Kobe McDonald and Kerry U-20 star Ben Murphy penned Category B Rookie contracts. Murphy will join up with the Brisbane Lions next month while McDonald will join St Kilda after the completion of his Leaving Certificate next year.

McDonald, son of Mayo legend Ciaran, lit it up on the club scene this year with Crossmolina Deel Rovers and the 17-year-old would have been expected to play a big part with Andy Moran’s Mayo squad over the coming years.
