The Virginia Zoo and a Norfolk brewery have entered a symbiotic relationship.
Elation Brewing has launched a lineup of beers inspired by the zoo’s animals and its mission. The beverages illustrate community engagement, conservation and fun, zoo and brewery staff said. The drinks are being sold on the zoo’s grounds at 3500 Granby St. and the Norfolk brewery at 5104 Colley Ave.
“It just seemed like a great partnership to really get involved with the Norfolk community,” Virginia Zoo Spokesperson Emily Smicker said. “The zoo is really a community zoo. Elation and us have a lot of similar commitments to sustainable practices.”
The flavors, names and art on the beer cans take direct inspiration from the Virginia Zoo’s animals and habitats, Elation General Manager Mike Purcell said.
