A group of 17 Tulsa veterans visited Washington, D.C. on a free trip through the Brookshire Grocery Company Heroes Flight, the parent company of Reasor’s. The three-day experience brought together veterans from different branches and eras, including a father and son who say the journey carried special meaning.
Army veteran Carter Check described his years of service as "awesome, difficult, challenging, but worth it all." He said visiting the memorials in the nation’s capital allowed him to reflect on his time in uniform.
"These monuments, these museums that we go to, they’re like mirrors and when you walk up to them, you see where you’ve come from, you see what you gave, but you also see where you’re headed to," Carter said.
