Indiana lawmakers have settled on a date: They will meet during the first two weeks of December to heed Gov. Mike Braun's call for a special session to redraw new congressional maps mid-decade.
Except it won't actually be a "special" session now but rather part of the regular 2026 legislative session.
Braun's call kicked off a 40-day clock starting Nov. 3 for Indiana lawmakers to meet to consider redistricting, a request from President Donald Trump to draw more favorable Republican districts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Though Republicans already have seven of nine congressional seats in Indiana, there's pressure from the White House to draw a map that gives Republicans favorable margins in every district.
