ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- In an act of caring and selflessness, Jeff Hammond, who teaches physical fitness at Goldwood Primary School, underwent surgery Oct. 27 to donate one of his kidneys to his cousin.
The procedure marks the culmination of a decision that has touched the hearts of students, parents and staff throughout the school community.
“This generous and selfless act speaks volumes about his character and the kindness he brings to our school community each day,” Principal Carol Rosiak wrote in a letter to families announcing Hammond’s medical leave.
Hammond began his leave Oct. 21 to prepare for the surgery and allow time for recovery.
