(CNN) – McDonald’s is among the many businesses dealing with the penny shortage.

Some of its fast-food restaurants are now rounding cash purchases, either up or down, to the nearest five cents when customers don’t have exact change.

The U.S. Mint stopped making pennies two months ago.

The change in McDonald’s policy to round up or down only affects people paying cash.

Most people in the United States use credit cards or other cashless payments to buy their food and drinks.
