AUBURN — For the first time this fall, it won't be Hugh Freeze addressing the media as Auburn football 's head coach when the program hosts its weekly availability Monday, Nov. 3. Instead, it'll be defensive coordinator and linebackers coach DJ Durkin , who was elevated to interim head coach the day prior, in the aftermath of Freeze's firing .
Including interims, Durkin became the 32nd head coach in Auburn 's 133-year history. He's also its sixth head coach in five seasons, joining Freeze, Bryan Harsin , Gus Malzahn and former interims Carnell Williams and Kevin Steele in that span.
Durkin takes over an Auburn team that's 4-5 overall and 1-5 against the SEC, which lost to Kentucky as a double-digit favorite in its latest result. He's in his second season on the P
