In the past three decades, the University of Florida and Louisiana State University have won six national football championships, three apiece. Coaching legends like Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer have won with the Gators, and Nick Saban, Les Miles and Ed Orgeron with the Tigers.

They are two of the most prominent programs in college football, and it is practically inconceivable that barely halfway through the 2025 season, they are both looking for a new head coach.

But it is true. Florida fired Billy Napier two weeks ago, and after a humiliating loss in Death Valley to Texas A&M last week, LSU fired Brian Kelly.
