BROWNING, Mont. – The Blackfeet Tribal Court has introduced a new plan allowing defendants to pay off fines with food donations.

The Honorable Chief Judge Misty Rides At The Door issued an administrative order to support children and elders in the Blackfeet community. Effective immediately, defendants can bring non-perishable food items equating to half their owed fines, along with a store receipt, to the Blackfeet Tribal Court.

Once delivered, the fine will be considered fully paid. A staff member will ensure all donations reach the Blackfeet Food Distribution Office for community distribution.

Additionally, starting mid-November, defendants will have the option to pay fines by purchasing toys or clothes for children, which will be given to the Toys for Tots program or local schools.
