LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — The Lucas County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about ongoing scams it says are targeting relatives and friends of incarcerated individuals.
The "inmate-related scams" involve a scammer using public records to locate and contact the friends and families of inmates at the Lucas County jail. These scammers pretend to be law enforcement officers or jail staff, the sheriff's office said, and ask for money for bond, rehabilitation programs or probation-related fees.
The sheriff's office said in a social media post that it will never call, text or email a request for money for an inmates bond, release or participation in any program.
