ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ( WWSB ) - St. Petersburg Police department (SPPD) detectives arrested Corey Deron Battle, age 47, for 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of Jerome Smith, age 44.

On Oct. 30, a neighbor found Smith in his home, bleeding from a gunshot wound.

Bradenton police request help identifying burglary suspect

Police arrived at the home and took Smith to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said he died from his injuries three days later, on Nov. 2.

SPPD said that through their investigation, detectives determined that Battle and Smith knew each other and that they allegedly had a dispute at Smith’s home that escalated into a shooting.

This case is still an active investigation.
