KENT COUNTY, MI -- A 46-year-old man involved in a one-day crime spree had been convicted as a juvenile in the 1996 killing of a restaurant manager.
Cody Jerome Skaggs was arraigned Monday, Nov. 3 on multiple felonies for leading police on a vehicle pursuit and crashing into multiple vehicles before breaking into an occupied senior living center while armed with a knife.
The series of events happened about 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.
Skaggs, paroled in 2023 after a judge re-sentenced him to a term of 25-75 years for second-degree murder, absconded on his parole in July.
On Thursday, Kent County sheriff’s detectives spotted Skaggs in the passenger seat of an SUV in Plainfield Township. Road patrol deputies then conducted a traffic stop at Five Mile Road NE and Northville Drive.
