(WKRG) — U.S. Representative Shomari Figures of District 2 has introduced three new bills in an effort to support citizens during the government shutdown.
According to a news release from Rep. Figures, the bills aim to protect contractors, college students, and U.S. Capitol Police Officers.
Under the Keep America Building Act, existing federal contracts cannot be interrupted or suspended during funding lapses. Infrastructure projects that are already under contract will continue as planned. The bill has three cosponsors.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will now consider the bill.
The Guaranteeing Retention and Aid During Shutdowns Act will forbid any Title IV institution from disenrolling a student due to disruptions in federal aid.
