UPDATE 4:50 p.m.: The University of Virginia released this updated statement:

"At approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, the University of Virginia received reports of an active shooter at Shannon Library. Buildings were placed under access control and safety alerts were issued to the community.
