An 18-year-old man died in a fiery Vancouver Island crash that may have been seen by another driver who failed to stop.

The collision happened at 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 1 just south of Nanaimo, when a black Audi S3 sedan crashed and caught fire in the northbound lanes near Morden Road.

“Witnesses have told police that a second dark-coloured car was driving in the area at the time but did not stop when the Audi crashed,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the B.C. RCMP highway patrol.
