An Oshawa resident named Aric has won a record-breaking $25,010,057 in the Blue Jays Care Foundation’s 50/50 jackpot. This prize marks the largest 50/50 payout in Major League Baseball history. Although the Toronto Blue Jays did not secure the World Series title, this substantial win offers a significant consolation for the lucky winner.
Blue Jays legend Joe Carter was scheduled to personally inform Aric of his win through a phone call on Monday. The 50/50 raffle generated over $50 million in ticket sales, with half of the proceeds going to the Jays Care Foundation. The foundation supports various community initiatives, including the Baseball for Development programs, which assist children with physical or cognitive disabilities in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
The funds raised will help build baseball diamonds and provide programs for children in First Nations communities. The Jays Care Foundation expressed gratitude to fans for their support, stating, "Thank you, Blue Jays fans for raising a record-setting $25,010,057 this World Series. We truly appreciate your incredible support all season long!"
The 50/50 contest was open to residents of Ontario and Nova Scotia. Previous jackpots during the Blue Jays' postseason included $3.5 million for the American League Championship Series and $1.2 million for the American League Division Series.
The excitement of the jackpot announcement came after a disappointing weekend for the Blue Jays. The team lost a hard-fought Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, falling 5-4 in extra innings. The Blue Jays were aiming to win their first World Series title since 1993, when Carter hit a walk-off home run in Game 6 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Following the loss, star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reflected on the season, saying, "We’ve got to move forward. I’m very proud of myself and my teammates and we’ll be back."
