Red kettles will appear again soon at stores and special events around the Sarnia area as the Salvation Army Christmas fundraising campaign returns.
The kettles date back to the late 1800s in North America as a way of collecting donations, and this year’s campaign goal in Sarnia is $175,000 to help support the Salvation Army’s local food bank and other family services for those in need, said Sarnia kettle coordinator Brenda Dunn.

Donations will be accepted at local kettle locations beginning Nov. 13 at noon and the campaign will run until noon on Christmas Eve.
Dunn said she’s still looking for volunteers to fill about 1,400 hours of kettle duty on the schedule this season.
