SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A Suwannee County man is behind bars after allegedly killing his father and severely injuring his mother.

Gene Desmartin, 47, is charged with homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated battery and resisting arrest, according to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a home on 81st Road in the McAlpin community last Wednesday night.

Investigators say Desmartin killed his father, Gene Roger Desmartin Sr., 67, and severely injured his mother. Deputies say the incident was a stabbing.

The sheriff’s office said the mother is still alive, but they have not been able to talk to her yet for a statement. Deputies say it appears likely she will survive.
