MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The supplemental nutrition program Women, Infants and Children is getting $450 million of additional funding as the government shutdown continues.

The National WIC Association says the funding is just a band-aid, and families who rely on the program are still in limbo.

According to WIC, the White House Office of Management and Budget has initiated the transfer of the funding, and states are expected to get the extra support within the next two days.

Federal data show that about 6.7 million women and children use WIC every month, and WIC officials said families with babies need a permanent fix.
