BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Monday night’s Burlington City Council agenda includes a marina dredging project that could have a big impact on next year’s boating season.

Two harbors provide 58 boat slips every summer for Burlington boaters and visitors to enjoy Lake Champlain.

One boat you might recognize is the Spirit of Ethan Allen. Owner Mike Shea had to move his boat deeper in the water this summer, and says this area is desperately in need of dredging.

“Lake Champlain is at the bottom of the city and just stuff comes down here; it ends up in the lake and sort of filters out right here,” Shea said.

Dredging is a lake cleaning process that removes built-up sediment and debris in the lake. According to Burlington Harbormaster Erin Moreau, dredging should happen every 10 to 15 years.
