Fifteen years after its opening, Stride Place (formerly the PCU Centre) is officially debt-free, a major financial milestone celebrated this week as a testament to local, cross-jurisdictional collaboration.

The final payment on the 15-year debenture for the $44-million, LEED Silver-certified facility was made this past weekend, completing the financing for one of the largest projects ever undertaken jointly by the City of Portage la Prairie and the Rural Municipality (R.M.) of Portage la Prairie.

“The building is all paid for now,” said Ken Brennan, who was the city’s mayor when the facility opened in 2010. “It’s been a tremendous success and a beautiful facility with more things to come.”
