YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - With a ceremonial pounding of the gavel, 12-year-old Jamir Wells took on the last name of his new adoptive family.
Jamir's been living with Jason and Brenda Watchhorn for the last several years in foster care. The couple already has six other kids, including Jamir's brother.
"It has been a challenge. We've had to work through it, but he brings a lot of joy to the family, and we really kind of completed things because we had already adopted his brother Issac," Watchorn said.
In a rare occurrence Monday, the adoption ceremony was conducted in public. These normally take place behind closed doors. All of Jamir's forever family members dressed in red, Jamir's favorite color. Judge Robert Rusu started holding events like this 12 years ago as part of National Adoptio
