SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — The Sevier County Animal Shelter announced it would remain closed on Wednesday after discovering another parvovirus case in one of its dogs, according to a post from the shelter.
The shelter said it received a litter of 8-month-old stray dogs more than a week ago, saying they appeared healthy at intake and had no signs of illness until Sunday evening.
"Staff noticed that two of them were displaying lethargy, lack of appetite, and diarrhea," the shelter said. "We immediately tested them for the parvovirus."
According to the shelter, it is policy to test for the virus immediately if they see any sign that a dog or puppy is not feeling well. The shelter said two dogs tested positive and potentially exposed the other dogs within the shelter.
