JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —
For three weeks, Olde Town Grocery in Jeffersonville hasn’t been able to process SNAP or EBT payments — a setback store managers link to a government shutdown stalling new approvals.
“Because we have new owners, we had to get a new license number with SNAP,” store manager Dayna Wheeler said. “But every time we call, there’s no one in the office, so it just tells us they’re not processing new claims. So we can’t take any at all until the government opens back up, at least.”
The financial hit is immediate for a neighborhood store that relies on SNAP sales.
“The store probably does 30 to 40% of sales a day,” Wheeler said. “That’s a big impact, not just on sales for us and the money the store makes, but our customers — most of the customers around here are elderly, d
