CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Children all across Northeast Ohio are suffering serious injuries — even dying — while attempting TikTok fire challenges, according to a local trauma surgeon.

She says this disturbing trend has unfortunately become increasingly common.

Dr. Casey Kohler , a trauma surgeon at MetroHealth Hospital’s burn center in Cleveland, said he has treated a number of patients who attempted social media challenges involving fire.

“I’ve had patients die,” Kohler said. “We weren’t able to save them from the severity of the burn, after they did the challenge.”
