MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Within four days, two inmates at the Shelby County Jail died.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said that Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy asked the agency to investigate the circumstances leading up to the death of 40-year-old Antonio First.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), officers found First unresponsive in his cell around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. The Memphis Fire Department pronounced him deceased 25 minutes later.

FOX13 reported on First's sentencing in August 2024. He was sentenced to life in prison for the beating death, abuse, and neglect of his two-year-old son.
