NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Davidson County Chancellor will determine whether or not the National Guard will remain in Memphis. Monday, attorneys for Shelby County officials and Tennessee officials presented their arguments for a temporary injunction in a lawsuit filed last month. Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris, Councilman JB Smiley Jr., Commissioners Henri Brooks and Erika Sugarmon and Memphis Representatives G.A. Hardaway and Gabby Salinas sued Governor Bill Lee, saying his deployment of the National Guard was unlawful. Lee deployed the National Guard in September as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force, an operation with more than 31 federal and state law enforcement agencies.
