CHICAGO (WGN) — Illinois Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia will not run for a fifth term, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He had held public office for more than four decades.

Garcia, 69, was born in Mexico and moved to Chicago with his family when he was 10 years old. He first won election to the Chicago City Council in 1986 and later served in the Illinois Senate and on the Cook County Board.

He unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Chicago twice and in 2015, forced then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel into a runoff, a milestone that highlighted his strong base of support among voters.

Patty Garcia, who has no relation to Garcia and serves as his Chief of Staff, will run for the seat.
