BOISE, Idaho — The city of Boise on Saturday experienced a sanitary sewer overflow - the only one of its kind that has occurred "in at least the last two decades," according to a news release .

Boise officials on Monday announced the city had a sanitary sewer overflow on Nov. 1 that impacted the Thurman Drain, which is located north of Chinden Boulevard and east of South Eagle Road.

A power surge at the West Boise Water Renewal Facility reportedly impacted communications and facility operations, resulting in a backup in the sewer system.

As a result, untreated wastewater overflowed from the pipes and onto the surface near Thurman Drain, according to the city.

City of Boise crews quickly worked the scene to stop, contain and clean the overflow.
