Three men accused of raping a college student near the airport in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city were shot by the police and arrested after they allegedly attacked an officer while attempting to flee .
On Monday, special police teams surrounded the accused, identified as Thavasi, Karuppasamy, and Kaaleeswaran, near a temple. When cornered, they reportedly attacked the officers with sickles, injuring Head Constable Chandrasekhar on his left wrist and arm.
In response, the police opened fire, injuring the three accused on their legs before taking them into custody.
They were later admitted to the Coimbatore District Government Hospital. The injured officer has also been hospitalised.
