The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 9:21 p.m. on Monday for strong thunderstorms until 10 p.m. for Suffolk County.

Residents should be prepared for wind gusts of up to 55 mph.

"At 9:21 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Southold, moving east at 50 mph," explains the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects."

Locations impacted by the alert include Southold, Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton, Fishers Island, Gardiners Island, Plum Island, Noyack, Montauk Point, Shelter Island, Greenport, Shinnecock Hills, East Hampton, Peconic, Hither Hills State Park and Hampton Bays.

The weather service adds, "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building."
