JONES COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Jones County officials opened two new buildings on Monday to improve public safety.

Residents and county leaders attended the ribbon-cutting for a new emergency services facility on the east side of the county. Officials say it will help first responders get to people faster.

Jones County Emergency Services Director Ryan Mills said, “The quicker we can get to someone, the better their chance of surviving, whether it be a stroke, heart attack, or traumatic injury.”

The building is on land south of Pollocksville, purchased from Frances Hughes, whose father bought the property in 1945.

“Oh, he would be amazed. He’d say, ‘Wow, this is really quite impressive, it really is,’” Hughes said.

Officials also held a ribbon-cutting for the renovated emergency operation
