SHREVEPORT, La. — For more than three decades, Caddo Parish deputies have worked in locations that leak when it rains, smell of mold, and threaten the integrity of criminal evidence.
On Monday, Sheriff Henry Whitehorn told parish commissioners the time has come to move out and to buy instead of lease.
“We’ve been leasing these properties for over 30 years and spent more than $5 million in rent, taxes, and maintenance,” Whitehorn said. “Staying in these structurally vulnerable facilities is not fiscally responsible.”
The facilities at 4910 North Market and 1501 Corporate Drive are literally crumbling. North Market is the site where the sheriff's office's patrol and fleet services is located. The investigative division is on Corporate Drive.
